This week, our Golden TWIG (This Week in Guadalajara) goes to the mesmerizing Phantom of the Opera at El Palacio de las Vacas
Why? Excellent musical experience I loved seeing it in Vegas and San Francisco. But this production was a totally different experience. More intimate. More emotional. More interactive as the amazing cast of 20 perform right in front of your eyes.
Where: The mystical Palacio De las Vacas, that mixes the past with the present. An architectural beauty.
When: Until September 17th.
Details:
The Palacio de las Vacas is an old palace built at the end of the 19th century that was the residence of Segundo Díaz, cousin of Porfirio Díaz, president of Mexico for thirty years. Now it is a beautiful Hotel used for private events and a Cafe. Desserts, coffee, pizzas. They have natural juice not from the box, liqueurs, smoothies. The service takes time but that gives you a chance to walk around the Palace.
Phantom of the Opera opened in London’s West End in 1986 and today it is celebrating its 36th anniversary!
The Phantom has been played in 35 countries and 166 cities around the world in front of 140 million people!
Although the Phantom has no name in the musical, he's called Erik in Gaston Leroux's original novel.
Special tip: Get there by 7.30pm (for 8pm performance) to insure a good seat. They over sell and the latest to arrive will have to seat on a wood chair.
The VIP ticket includes food that is served at your seat during intermission.
Emotions you may encounter: Transported in time. Flashback to how beautiful the score by Andrew Lloyd Webber is. Tearing when seeing the loneliness on the Phantom's face. Being amazed how the singer performing the role of Christine ressembles the original singer Sarah Brightman (coming to Guadalajara in October BTW).
